Scope of Work:
Structural Demolition, Dismantlement, Environmental Remediation, Erosion Control
This project consisted of the demolition of a gas supply area at the former Energy Coke Manufacturing Plant. O’Rourke dismantled the 250’ gas holder that towered over the Plant since 1936. From 1909 to 2007 the plant manufactured coke, a distilled form of coal, that was used as fuel in the steel industry. For 71 years, the gas holder stored six (6) million cubic feet of coke oven gas. Steps were taken to prevent erosion and runoff into a nearby creek. O’Rourke implemented a fugitive dust control plan as part of the demolition work and our plan effectively reduced dust emissions from the site. O’Rourke also developed and implemented an Odor Control Plan which included amended work practices, air monitoring and continued improvements to control odors. Air quality monitoring was performed daily throughout the completion of this demolition to ensure that levels remained below those identified by the regulatory agencies.
