Scope of Work:
This multi-faceted demolition project included an extensive amount of selective removal activities. The Main Entrance Canopy (concrete), Michigan Street Pedestrian Bridge, associated Elevator Tower and Air Shaft Vents are highlighted above to illustrate the extent of demolition. Not visible is the active basement and mechanical equipment directly below. Due to these constraints many of the removals required light duty equipment, hand demolition and rigging/picking methods. Work also included the selective removal of one bay (shaded above) of a fully operational and occupied six-story Patient Tower. Precise, controlled demolition means and methods were utilized on this project as to not disrupt ongoing hospital operations. Illustrated also is the North Pedestrian Walkway removal work. This demolition project was performed in preparation for a $100 million hospital tower expansion project.
