The factory was the first in America built for the purpose of manufacturing airplanes. Its construction marked the beginning of the aviation industry’s transition from craft production in make-to facilities to huge factories where aerospace workers assemble aircraft and space vehicles. The site will be open to the public as a unit of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, The factory will complete the story of the Wright brothers’ invention, development and commercialization of the airplane in Dayton.
