O’Rourke Wrecking Company was the prime contractor for demolition and abatement of the former Home Avenue Delphi Automotive Manufacturing Plant in Dayton, Ohio. The 54 acre site was demolished for redevelopment. This was also the site of the Wright Brothers historic Wright Company factory buildings that had to be preserved during demolition operations. The factory was the first in America built for the purpose of manufacturing airplanes. Its construction marked the beginning of the aviation industry’s transition from craft production in make-to facilities to huge factories where aerospace workers assemble aircraft and space vehicles. The site will be open to the public as a unit of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, The factory will complete the story of the Wright brothers’ invention, development and commercialization of the airplane in Dayton.
