Western and Southern Parking Garage Demolition
Location: Cincinnati, OH
Scope of Work:
Structural Demolition, Excavation, Earth Retention Systems
Project Detail:
Work involved the demolition of a 12-story cast in place parking garage in downtown Cincinnati. As part of the project O’Rourke removed a massive grade wall foundation system intended to support what was believed to include a high-rise office building that was never added to the top of the parking garage. This foundation extended to a depth of 3 stories below grade.
Significant coordination and meticulous work practices were required to assure that adjacent structures and streets were not impacted or damaged by the parking garage demolition operations. Traffic control and off hour work averted any inconvenience and safety risks posed by the adjacent city streets and sidewalks. Temporary protection and more selective demolition operations nullified the risk to the adjacent office building that housed the end user and owner of the subject project. Work also included the coordination and installation of the earth retention system as the concrete foundations and soils were removed. The project had an intense performance schedule that necessitated continuous weekend and double shift work hours to meet the goals set forth by the project specifications.
